History

On March 4th 2015 we began making history. A group of local riders from various riding communities got together over food and beer at Velo Restaurant (now Bici in Ramsey, NJ). Ideas were shared on how to get legal access to mountain biking trails in the Palisades area parks. The vibe was great, the food was delicious and the ideas kept coming. Most importantly, the optimism was there, that we could do this. Many efforts to do this have failed in the past.

Several meetings followed, and a group of like-minded individuals, independent of any one bike shop or club, committed to the process of forming Palisades MTB as an IMBA organization, with the goal of opening state and county and municipal parks to mountain biking. The willingness of Tom Hennigan (JORBA) and Michael Vitti (CLIMB) to share their experience with us over some food and drinks from the earliest stages propelled us forward.

On September 14, 2015 our training wheels came off and our application to become an IMBA chapter was approved.

On November 9, 2015 our community building efforts got under way, at our first fundraising dinner at Tavlin in Tenafly. It was an opportunity to have more food and beer, to make new friends, and to support an effort that will benefit all of us that mountain bike in the area. Please get involved … make history with us.

On December 1, 2015 our application for membership with the New York New Jersey Trail Conference was accepted.

Now, in 2021, we’re over 150 members and growing but we need more support. Volunteering or donating can go a long way so here’s your chance to help make more trails.
